In my current work I use XML Schema a lot, so I wanted to have a solid background for that. This exam suited most for that subject.

Yes, XML in general and some aspects of XML Schema I already used in some projects.

In hours, about 18.

I used the suggested book 'XML in a Nutshell', but also the small book from O'Reilly called 'XML Pocket Reference'. Further I used the prepartion tools on this website a lot and I studied some sample exam questions.

Perhaps is a minimum of 35 out of 50 questions to pass the exam a bit high.
